I have been working on the pages for my family and decided that I wanted to be able to post articles and have them automatically update each family members page. After a bit of thinking I decided the best way to do this would be thru labels, because all i would have to do is add a single tag to decided who the article should relate to.
I wanted this label based table of contents to appear in the page unlike Blogger's gadget system that only places gadgets on the outsides on the pages or posts and in general just didn't do what I wanted it to.
Well I'll just get to the point on how to do it. (Example of this working is on each family page under related links)
(This guide will assume family member post association)
1st: Label the posts you want associated to the one family member with a unique label (For this Example the label and persons name will be BeTty (P.S. The label is Case Sensitive))
2nd: Now that Posts are labeled BeTty, visit feedburner.com or feedburner.google.com
3rd: Log into feedburner (It's your Google credentials) and it will take you to this page.
4th: Enter your labels feed which would be http://www.josefholland.com/feeds/posts/default/-/BeTty (Where BeTty would be your label (It's still case sensitive) and www.josefholland.com is your custom domain or blogger domain) in the box after 'Burn a feed right this instant. Type your blog or feed address here:"(Shown Below)5th: Set your feed title and address ( set the feed title to the tag BeTty making it easier to recognize and just append BeTty to the prefilled address) Then press next.
6th: Press next 3 times viewing your options till you get to the final page and click publicize
7th: Then you click BuzzBoost
8th: Choose your options for the way the feed will look ( Set it to display all, open in same window and uncheck everything except display item content) Then click activate.
9th: Copy the provided code where you want the label based ToC
10th: Veiw the page
Below is this code in action (Will only show one item because this will be the only page with a tag called BeTty)(You can also see this code used on each of the family member pages under related links in the lower right side of the page (Where it says feed unavailable for Lucas and Kylie it's because I have no labels for them because there is no article, I just need to add a tag and it will go there))

pretty cool ! I was surprise of all the complicated methods there was was for making a table of content for my blogger blog. I usually work with wordpress. That was pretty easy - thank you.
ReplyDeleteI didn't even know you could make a feed out of each label. Is that what you did here ?
Yes the example is to make a ToC for each label. You can see it in action on each of my family pages as that is what creates the related links section.
ReplyDeleteIf you would like to do the same only to include all posts regardless of label you can use " http://yourblog.domain or subdomain here/feeds/posts/default?alt=rss" as the rss instead.
I am glad that you enjoyed the how to and your welcome. If you have any questions on how to do anything just let me know and I'll do what I can for you.
